South Division play for Week 5 of the spring league kicked off with a clash between the Generals and the Sea Lions. Gens RB Darnell Holland dominated the day with two kickoff returns for touchdowns and a rushing touchdown, Holland had himself a day.
The game kicked off with the first of Holland’s touchdowns on an opening kickoff return the length of the field to put the Generals on the board, and after the PAT by Lirim Hajrullahu, the Gens were up 7-0.
On their next possession Generals QB, Ryan Mallet connected with Sal Canella to bring the ball downfield, and a carry from RB Paul Terry crossed them into scoring position. Mallet connected with Siaosi Mariner for the touchdown making the score 13-0.
The Gens forced the Sea Lions to punt but the ball was fumbled on the return. James Tyrell for the Sea Lions recovered the ball at the 5-yard line. The Gens managed to hold the Sea Lions to a 23-yard FG attempt making the score 13-3 Generals.
On the next Sea Lions possession, Ben Holmes connected with Kavonte Turpin and Tristen Wallace to bring the ball downfield. Aca’Cedric Ware carried the ball inside the 5-yard line where he then punched the ball into the endzone making the score 13-9.
The Generals got the ball back with under a minute left to play. Mallet was able to bring them into FG range with a pass to Mariner, and Hajrullahu kicked a 46-yard FG attempt as the half expired.
On the next Sea Lions drive, LaDarius Galloway had a first-down run to bring the Sea Lions into the red zone. The Gens held them to a 37 yard FG attempt by kicker Garret Hartley bringing the score to 19-12 Generals.
On the returning Gens drive, Mallet connected with Mariner to bring the ball across the field, then with Holland for his second touchdown of the day, making the score 25-12, Generals.
The returning Sea Lions drive was picked off in the endzone by DB Amani Dennis. The Gens would end up giving the ball back the other way and the Sea Lions made quick work in scoring, handing the ball off to Aca’Cedric Ware for the touchdown. Hartly made the PAT bringing the score to 19-25.
On the kickoff return, Darnell Holland had his second return for a touchdown, and third overall on the day, and after a successful 2-pt conversion pass from Mallet to Mariner the score was 33-19 Generals.
The Gens got the ball back quickly and on that drive Mallet connected with Raymond Epps, Jeremie Neil, and Jordan Suell to bring them back into the red zone, where Chris James punched the ball in for another touchdown making the score 39-19.
The Sea Lions made their way down the field off of a pass from Johnson to Cameron Echols-Luper, bringing them into the red zone, where Turpin caught a bullet pass for a touchdown, then Johnson connected with AJ Greene for the 2-pt conversion making the score 39-27 Generals.
The Gens landed on the Sea Lions last second, Victory formation for Mallet and the Generals offense, Final Score 39-27 Generals.
