The Linemen and the Aviators capped off North Division play for week 5 with one of the closest games of the season.
To start the game, Ryan Willis connected with a myriad of receivers to bring the Linemen downfield before they settled for a 35-yard field goal try by Johnathan Song making the score 3-0 Lineman.
On the returning Aviators drive, QB Vad Lee connected with WR Dimitrios Tsmetzis to cross the 50 then Kelvin Taylor carried for another first down. On 3rd & 15 Vad connected with De’Vante Davis to bring the ball into the red zone, where RB Charles Johnson II punched it in on a 12-yard run, and after the PAT with Tadgh Leader the Aviators were up 7-3.
On the next Aviators drive, Vad Lee connected with Woody Brandon for a 50+ yard touchdown. The PAT attempt was blocked and the score was 13-3.
Both teams traded punts to start the second half and when the ball came back the Linemen, Aviator Kyahva Tenzino forced a fumble giving the Aviators back the ball.
A few scoreless possessions later the Linemen picked up a fumble at the Aviator 12-yard line, where Willis threaded a pass past two Aviator defenders to Reece Horn for the score. The PAT by Song brought the score to 13-10 with just under 10 minutes to play.
Not to be outdone, Lee Vad connected with Erick Brundidge for a 50+ yard pass to bring the Aviators into field goal range off of one play. Lee picked apart the Linemen defense with some dynamite passes and handed the ball off to Taylor for the Aviator’s score.
A great return for Linemen Tra Minter ending at the Aviator’s 40 set up the Linemen to score soon. They pushed down the field and after a pass from Willis to Michael Dereus, the Linemen were inside the ten. Minter punched the ball into the endzone, and after Song’s PAT, the score was 19-17 Aviators with just under 3 to play.
The Aviators had to punt the ball back to the Linemen on the next drive. Willis connected with Ben Putnam to bring the Linemen into the red zone where Song scored a 27-yard FG as time expired. Final Score 20-19 Aviators.
