Week two of The Spring League’s 2021 season concluded with a contest between the Jousters and the Blues.
The game started off slow, both teams trading punts back and forth till the end of the first quarter when Jousters QB Luis Perez connected on a 23-yard pass with Anthony Ratliff-Williams for the first touchdown of the game. After a missed PAT the Jousters were up 6-0.
On the next Jousters’ drive, Perez connected with TE Dequan Hampton several times to bring them across the 50 and well into the red zone. Perez then kept the ball on a long 3rd & 2 to make it 1st and goal. On the tenth play of the drive, Perez again connected with Hampton, this time for a touchdown. After the made PAT by Kicker Ricky Aguayo, the Jousters were up 13-0.
On the returning Blues drive, Jouster, Niles Morgan had a huge sack resulting in the loss of about 20 yards. The Blues could not convert on 3rd down and were forced to punt.
The Jousters looked to be on the move again, Hampton bringing down a good pass for first down, but all momentum was stopped when a pass by Perez intended for Tyler Palka was picked off by Blues Davion Davis. The Jousters’ defense managed to hold the Blues to a FG try, which missed just outside the right side upright.
The Blues’ next drive was shut down by an interception by Jouster Joshua Simmons inside his own 10.
Drew Anderson, who came in as QB for the Jousters at the start of the second half, announced his presence in the game on the next drive with a 94-yard pass to Darren Woods Jr. Woods trotted into the endzone alone, and the Jousters, after the made PAT by Aguayo strengthened their lead to 20-0.
On the next Jousters drive, Anderson showed off his mobility and ran the ball for two first downs, but after the quarter break, he was picked off in his red zone by Denzel Rice who ran it back for six. John Barnes made his PAT and the Blues were on the board. 20-7 Jousters.
The Jousters’ Lavon Coleman chunked his way down the field, picking up several first downs and bringing his team into the red zone, where Anderson ran it inside the 10. After a handoff to Ratliff-Williams and a successful 2pt try, the Jousters went up 28-7.
Big hits by Jousters Bumi Rotini and Darrius Moragne kept the Blues from crossing the field, and after a few quick runs, Drew Anderson and the Jousters were in Victory Formation. Final score 28-7 Jousters.
