Week two of The Spring League kicked off with a clash between the Alphas and the Conquerors in Indianapolis.
Both offenses started off slow, the Conquerors defensive line was aggressive early, stopping the Alphas’ dominant run game in the first quarter. A huge catch by Wide Receiver Ka’Ronce Higgins brought the Alphas into scoring position, and after a 48-yard field goal from Nathan Heirly, the Alphas took a 3-0 lead.
On their next drive Alphas, Quarterback Vad Lee showed he is not afraid to move, scrambling around the pocket and using his legs to get the Alphas a lot of yardages. Reigning North Division Player of the week Blake Morgan was also at it again, using his legs to pick up a first down for the Alphas. An athletic catch from Tevon Wright brought the Alphas to the 30, and after a great snag by Jeff Cotton the A’s were looking for the endzone. Big defensive pressure brought by Conquerers Tackle Arnee Saint-Amour forced the Alphas to settle for another field goal. The try by Heirly was good and the Alphas strengthened their lead to 6-0.
After a missed field goal by the Conquerors, the Alphas offense was on the move again. This time they found paydirt by way of a tip-toe catch by Higgins making the score a commanding 13-0 going into the half.
After the break, the Conquerors came out swinging, QB Brandon Silvers leaned on his Tight End Matt Seybert and the two connected for a huge gain, bringing the Red and Gold into scoring position. Silvers pinned a ball on the right-hand sideline to RB Jordan Salima to put the Conquerors on the board, and after a successful PAT by Cole Murphy, they were in the game. 13-7 Alphas.
On the next drive, Linebacker Zach Hall picked off the Alphas for a hefty return. Not to be outdone, Alphas Back Jojo Tillery then picked off the Conquerours and ran it all the way back to the ten-yard line. A QB keep from Lee put the alphas up 19-7.
The Conquerors were not done however, a solid drive capped off by a touchdown reception for Seybert brought the score to 19-14 in favor of the Alphas. On the next drive, Lee marched the Alphas into the red zone again and Higgins brought one down to make the score 26-14 Alphas.
The Conquerors looked to keep the comeback alive with a quick trip down the field. WR Cole Spieker carried the ball into the endzone bringing the score within one possession, but after a failed onside kick, the Alphas took the victory. Final Score 26-21 Alphas.
