From Mentor, OH, Stanzi accepted a scholarship to play quarterback at the University of Iowa. Stanzi starred as a Hawkeye, posting a 26-9 record in the tough Big 10 conference and winning 3 bowl games. Stanzi also proved to be a clutch performer against ranked opponents, winning all 3 games vs Top-5 ranked opponents throughout his career, including going 3-0 vs Kirk Cousins’ Michigan State Spartans.
Stanzi was named to the 2010 Davey O’Brien National Quartberack Award and Manning Award watch lists, and a finalist for the Premier Player of College Football Trophy.
Stanzi was drafted in the 5th round by the Kansas City Chiefs, serving as a backup. He also has stints with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans, New York Giants, and Detroit Lions.
After spending 2016 out of football, Stanzi turned to The Spring League to rejuvenate his career and give him recent game film and practice reps against elite competition. Stanzi’s performance at The Spring League earned him a contract from the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League.
Said Stanzi: “The Spring League is an opportunity to showcase your talents, develop new skills, and get in front of NFL and CFL scouts. There is nothing else like it.”
